DALLAS - Change is necessary for forward movement and growth, and next month that movement means survival as Dallas Mayor Pro-Tem Dwaine Caraway, Radio One’s Rickey Smiley, KBFB 97.9 The Beat, the City of Dallas and The MLK, Jr. Family Clinic launch an initiative to educate the community on the epidemic of HIV/AIDS.
The first Hip Hop for HIV concert will be held from 2 to 6 p.m. Sept. 14 on the steps of Dallas City Hall, 1500 Marilla St. The goal of the event is to increase awareness, alleviate the fear associated with HIV/AIDS, and encourage everyone to know your status and help eradicate the spread of the disease.
Knowing your status and “testing for tickets” is the core concept of this soon to be annual event. Testing sites will be designated throughout the Metroplex as participants collaborate with community organizations to begin confidential testing. Those tested will receive a free ticket to the concert.

Fourth West Nile Positive Mosquito Collection
Spraying scheduled Wednesday night August 6/Thursday morning August 7
Dallas – Responding to the fourth West Nile positive mosquito collection, City of Dallas staff will spray to reduce the numbers of mosquitoes in an area immediately west of Love Field. Spraying is scheduled for Wednesday night/Thursday morning, August 6 / August 7, 2008. Spraying will begin after 10 p.m. and will conclude prior to 3 a.m., weather permitting.
Control Area: (Map Attached) The area to be sprayed is bounded by Empire Central Drive, Brookhollow Road, Harry Hines Boulevard, Burbank Street and Denton Drive.
While the insecticide is considered safe, residents in the above areas should avoid contact with the spray by staying indoors. Persons inside a vehicle while trucks are actively spraying should remain in their vehicles with the windows up and the air conditioner on until the trucks pass and the spray is no longer visible. Persons out when spraying is to take place should be alert for trucks and should not follow them. Residents who come in contact with the spray are advised to wash the affected area thoroughly with soap and water. The spray breaks down quickly in the presence of sunlight and has no residual effect. Fish ponds should be protected and pets should be brought inside during the spraying period. |
